Mondays, April 30th – October 15th, 9:30am-3:00 pm

This apprenticeship class focuses on medium-scale home herb gardening from scratch for the purpose of growing and maintaining one’s own apothecary in accordance with the natural rhythms of the plants and the year. Students will get to work in a new, 2-year old garden, learning about soil amendment and seed starting, moving through garden design and co-creating with nature, planting, tending, harvesting, drying and medicine-making, composting, and ending with root harvest, seed-saving, and putting the garden to bed. Growing Asian medicinal species and learning about their uses will be an additional unique element.Students may also be taken on field trips to local farms/gardens and wild-crafting sites of interest to round out local medicine knowledge and gardening options.

The intent is to create a true apprenticeship-style learning environment emphasizing learning by doing, spaciousness within experience, and connection with plants, with little didactic time. Students will learn through embodied practice of being an herbalist and garden steward, which is hard work, but also exceptionally fun and rewarding. Lunches will be shared and be open space for questions. Further discussions of plant use and lore will occur while we work, weed and harvest.

Price is $850, and we ask for a $100 deposit to hold your spot. This class requires application and an interview.
