Art of Broom Making

Come learn the art of broom making! We’ll go step by step to create a large traditional kitchen broom together. The art of broom making has many layers of magic and meaning. From the history to the harvest of the wooden stick and broomcorn, weaving and creation, each part of the process contains timeless lessons. You will also learn basic woodworking skills for preparing and finish your broomstick! Tea, grazing foods and drinks will be provided.

No experience necessary. Sticks, tools and broom corn will be provided and you are also welcome to bring your own stick if you have a special one you would like to use.

There are limited spots available so pre-registration is required.


Hannah Mitchell is an artist, broom-maker, herbalist and distiller. Hannah’s business, The Rowdy Sprout, is known for its hand tied brooms, medicinal land art, and herbal consultations. Most of her work with creating art in the land has come through the growing of medicinal herb and food gardens. Since 2014 she has also worked as jewelry assistant to Lochlin Smith of Lochlin Smith Designs, jeweler and sculptor from Montpelier, Vermont.
